UUCAS has made a generous donation of $200 each to the Sayre Library and Waverly Free Library to purchase personal hygiene products. This donation aims to ensure that library visitors have access to essential items that help them feel comfortable and confident while using library facilities.
The donation follows a congregational discussion at UUCAS on ways to support people experiencing homelessness, which led to follow-up conversations with the directors of the area’s three local libraries. After learning about the potential needs, UUCAS decided to contribute to the libraries’ efforts to create more inclusive and welcoming environments for all.
With this contribution, both the Sayre and Waverly libraries will be able to provide hygiene essentials such as feminine hygiene products, diapers for both children and adults, and other personal care items. These resources will help ensure that every visitor—regardless of their circumstances—has the items they need to feel respected and at ease during their visit.
We believe in the power of our libraries to serve as welcoming spaces for everyone. By providing these personal hygiene products, we hope to ensure that everyone who visits the Sayre Library and Waverly Free Library feels respected, comfortable, and cared for.
The director of the Spaulding Memorial Library in Athens informed UUCAS that there is no immediate need for such donations at this time.
This donation highlights the importance of collaboration between local organizations and the essential role libraries play in enhancing the quality of life for everyone in the community. UUCAS is proud to be part of this ongoing partnership in support of our local libraries.
